Obviously, hard to do but Reviewer: Ampico - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - March 5, Subject: Best Western Ever I've almost completed the project of listening to the entire collection. When I do, I'll start over again.
His voice was perfect. It's funny. I hear Conrad and my mind sees Arness. Reviewer: ElNorm - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - March 4, Subject: Best Gunsmoke Collection As the person who uploaded the Gunsmoke shows on this page I'd like to mention that at the time I sent them up way back in the dim past, they were all I had. Since then others have advanced the cause. I have to tell you I'm about to replace an earlier version my Gunsmoke Compleat with this one. Spoiler : The story is the actors had no idea it was the last episode until George Walsh at the end announced, "This broadcast concludes the current Gunsmoke series" and then previewed the new season of Suspense as taking over its time slot.
Spoiler : I like the radio show better than the TV version. He would sarcastically needle him over many things about his job as town doctor that I found amusing.
Spoiler : Gunsmoke had a long run on TV. It started in , while the radio show was still on the air, and ended in after 20 seasons. The Simpsons will start season 31 next year, and 60 Minutes will start season 52 next season. Spoiler : I never listened to Gunsmoke before the last few days. I think it was because I wasn't much of a fan of the TV show. But I've heard a few episodes now, and I really like it, but it is very different than my memory of the TV show, dark and gritty in a way I didn't think was even allowed back in the fifties.
Strange to hear Floyd the barber speaking in such an offhand and uncaring way about death, and Miss. Kitty, so far, is a lot more forward about her feelings, something that always seemed subdued on the TV show. It is almost like the TV show was for families, and the radio show was adult fare.
But I am hooked! Lots of the radio actors also appear on the television series as well. You should listen to the radio adaption first and then watch the television adaption. It's interesting watching and listening for differences in the two productions. Spoiler : Poor William Conrad. His voice may have been, but his body was not made for TV.
